LPI Partners with Novell on Linux Certs

As the economy is headed (hopefully) for recovery, I'd expect that the market for Linux jobs will also pick up momentum. While experience is always the key, some employers (you know who you are) like certifications.
Now thanks to a new partnership between Novell Inc. and The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) getting those certifications might be a bit easier.
The new partnership means that people that have obtained their LPIC-1 ( Linux Professional Institute Certification) now also will be qualified for the Novell CLA (Certified Linux Administrator) certification without the need to take an extra Novell exam.
That's good news in my book.
Sure the LPIC-1 is a basic level certification (and no, after all these years of using Linux I still haven't found the time to get that cert myself), but removing the overlap with the CLA means less confusion for employer and Linux pros.
Yes I know full well that Red Hat's RHCE and RHCT designations are still in high demand and that the LPIC-1 doesn't (yet) directly relate to those certs. I also know very well that if you're going to work for an employer that is a Red Hat shop, you're likely better off just getting a Red Hat cert.
That being the case, Novell's CLA isn't quite the modern day equivalent of the CNE (Certified Netware Engineer), but old-timers will still remember its relevance. It will also increase the relevance of the LPIC-1 as it now is a two for one deal in terms of certification.
